Another Bus trip, 12 hours from Bulawayo, Zimbabwe to Johannesburg, South Africa. 12 hours waiting and 9 hours from Johannesburg to Maputo, Mozambique. In this way we arrived in other country of Africa to present Mandragora Circus.
When Manuela welcome us in Maputo at the first she told us that they are not accustomed to receiving groups from other countries, expressing a little the challenge of being the hosts of a group that comes from so far. Immediately we were taken to the theater where there were photos and posters announcing the shows. There we met Marcya and Flavio that the following days took us to do a tour in the radio and television programs. The official language of Mozambique is Portuguese, during the interviews where we talked about the show, the tours, the circus and the theater, the journalists spoke Portuguese and we Spanish, but as everyone said “it is understood”. And it seems that it was understood since the big theater was sold out for the shows.
In African countries, local culture mixes with European culture and Maputo is not an exception. A city with old buildings, on the coast of the Indian Ocean. The city is built of avenues and boulevard, where people are selling on the street and at the same time you find cafes where the sale bakeries at the best European style.
With Manuela we shared good moments chatting about the theater, the tours, etc, and, as it had already happen in Zimbabwe, when we share moments with theater directors or actors, the distances are shortened even more, since despite being in continents so distant and realities that seem to be so different we always find common points in the ways of carrying this profession.
Following the tour we had ahead a long travel discovering more countries of Africa.
